Ormus Gold vs Fulvic Minerals: Which is a Better Dietary Supplement

A Brief Education on Trace Mineral Supplements, Ormus Gold and Fulvic Ionic Minerals

Ormus is a supplement that is growing in popularity these days, and some people praise it for its esoteric health benefits. Others, however, are skeptical of Ormus, and think it is nothing more than a fictitious placebo being sold as a superfood supplement. Which perspective is true? What is Ormus really? Does it offer the benefits that some claim it does? And how does it compare to other mineral supplements?

In this article, we discuss Ormus alongside another popular minerals supplement—fulvic minerals—and discuss which is a better mineral supplement for optimal health, longevity, anti-aging and safety.

What Is Ormus?

Ormus, also known as ORMEs, or M-state minerals, is short for Orbitally Rearranged Monoatomic Elements. According to promoters of Ormus, there are supposedly certain elements, referred to as monoatomic elements, that exist in a different state of matter than the usual state of matter we are familiar with, and are said to be trapped in the molecular structures of plants, volcanic soil, and in the oceans of our planet. M-state minerals are supposedly substances exhibiting many miraculous properties, such as healing powers and superconductivity at room temperature. Since gold is said to be one of the primary elements used in Ormus, it is sometimes referred to as Ormus Gold. However, Ormus supplements do not contain actual gold, but the element of gold hydride (AuH) in a “monoatomic state”—a state of matter that is ethereal and non-detectable by the naked eye. These monoatomic elements were allegedly discovered in 1975 by David Hudson, a cotton farmer from Arizona.

Chemical Properties of Ormus

Chemically, ORMUS is supposed to be precious metals (gold, platinum, iridium, etc.) in an exotic state of matter, where the metals do not form any bonds or crystals, but exist as separate single atoms. At the same time, it is supposedly the material that the soul (or the life force) of all organisms is made of, an "essence of life". When mixed with water, "it forms a gelatinous suspension that looks just like semen."

Health Benefits of Ormus

According to David Hudson, the cotton farmer who discovered these ethereal elements, Ormus can supposedly:

  • Cure all forms of disease
  • Correct errors in the DNA
  • Act as a superconductor
  • Emit gamma radiation
  • Partially levitate the Earth’s magnetic field
  • Help you read a person’s mind
  • Be fused into a transparent mineral glass
  • Act as a flash powder, causing "explosions of light.”

So, what we know about Ormus is that it was discovered by a cotton farmer in Arizona in 1975. It is supposedly precious metals existing in an exotic state of matter, and is said to be the material of the soul or life force energy. These ethereal minerals can supposedly cure all forms of disease, correct DNA errors, help you read a person’s mind, and offer other interesting benefits.

The Issue with Ormus

There are several things that raise concerns about Ormus, but the primary issue with Ormus is that these monoatomic elements, or m-state minerals, cannot be verified scientifically, or by independent observation. So, one must either simply trust Hudson’s word and believe that monoatomic elements exist, despite there being any evidence for their existence, or must assume they do not exist until given sufficient evidence that proves otherwise.

Hudson has also made many claims in regard to Ormus that go against scientific facts:

  • He has claimed that gold forms “a free, uncomplexed hydride,” which is a chemical impossibility;
  • that HAu is different from AuH (the chemical formula for gold hydride) — even though the order of elements in a summary formula is only conventional and does not contain any chemical information;
  • that chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) can be directly reduced to gold hydride (AuH) — also an impossibility.
  • Hudson postulates the existence of materials with different inertial and gravitational masses, such as materials that fall to the Earth slowly, but are hard to push around—though this is completely ruled out by Einstein's theory of general relativity rules this out, the accepted theory explaining the law of gravity.
  • And numerous other claims that defy everything we know about chemistry, biology, physics, and nutrition.

Unless there are indeed monatomic states of matter, Ormus appears to be merely a salt or mineral liquid that has none of the claimed properties. It was supposedly extracted by repeatedly boiling gold and other metals to extract their monoatomic elements in water. However, gold is hardly used in this process as it is expensive, and so chemicals that are often used are corrosive, and the fumes released during repeated boiling are toxic. Attempting these procedures is a good way to waste money and/or injure yourself.

There are allegedly other procedures of obtaining Ormus, though these are also suspicious. As Ormus is sometimes referred to as the material of the soul, or life-force, people claim that it exists abundantly in nature and can be extracted from things like ocean water or volcanic ash. However, a material with superconductive properties occurring abundantly in nature would be very easy to detect, yet no such kind of material is known to modern science.

Unfortunately, Ormus along with its purported benefits is sold to many people who simply trust the word of retailers, or who are impressed with the seemingly scientific language often used around Ormus (even though the scientific claims are innacurate and unscientific) without investigating this substance independently. Ormus supplements definitely do not contain any gold or other precious metals, which is in fact a good thing, because water-soluble forms of precious metals are very toxic.

What are Fulvic Minerals?

Now, let us shift our attention to a mineral supplement that actually does have real science to support it, and is clinically studied to be extremely beneficial for health—Fulvic Minerals. To understand a fulvic mineral complex, we first need to understand fulvic acid, minerals, and ionic trace minerals.

Fulvic Acid

Fulvic acid is a humic substance, meaning it’s a naturally occurring compound found in soils, compost, and marine sediments. Fulvic acid is a product of decomposition and is formed through geochemical and biological reactions, such as the breakdown of food in a compost heap. It can be extracted from compost, soil, and other substances to be processed into a supplement.

To learn more about fulvic acid read our article "Humic and Fulvic Acid Benefits for Humans."

Minerals

Minerals are inorganic elements that make up all matter, from the largest planets to the smallest molecules. On Earth, the crust contains the most abundant sources of minerals in the form of rocks and soils. However, of all the hundreds of minerals that make up the Earth's crust, eight specific minerals account for over 98.59% of the mass:

  • Oxygen
  • Silicon
  • Aluminum
  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium

The remaining 1.41% consists of more than 200 trace minerals and elements in micro proportions.

For all living organisms, essential minerals come from food, water, and air. In our food, they come in the form of organic minerals, or inorganic minerals bound to organic acids or salts. Roughly 8% of all minerals on Earth are in an organic form.

Ionic & Ionized Minerals

Natural trace mineral supplements frequently use the terms “ionic trace minerals” and “ionized minerals” to describe a more desirable trace minerals supplement than other varieties. However, this can seem a bit confusing, as minerals themselves are by definition inorganic ions or particles of any given element—so what are ionic trace minerals and what is the difference between ionic and ionized trace minerals?

A mineral ion is an electrically charged mineral particle, such as Ca2+, which could be either an atom or a molecule (a group of atoms). Ionic trace minerals are trace mineral particles that have retained their intrinsic electrical charge and are often bound together to form ionic trace mineral complexes. An ionic trace minerals complex consists of two or more trace mineral ions that are bound together while still retaining a charge.

Ionic trace minerals are the only trace minerals that are readily absorbed by all living organisms, including us. Our cells can only truly make use of minerals in an ionic form, requiring charged mineral ions for all chemical reactions, nutrient delivery and most other processes that occur in the body.

Larger mineral particles need to be broken down and ionized before they can be absorbed into our cells, thus requiring more energy and bodily resources to absorb. Larger mineral particles are usually only partially absorbed after being broken down through digestion, unlike ionic trace minerals which are efficiently absorbed.

To learn more about ionic minerals read our blog "Ionic Minerals: Health Benefits and Dietary Sources."

Fulvic Minerals

The term fulvic minerals is used vaguely to describe all kinds of fulvic humic minerals, fulvic acid in general, plant-based minerals or any soil-based minerals including clay minerals; however, it is technically none of these interpretations. Fulvic minerals are ionic trace minerals that are bound to fulvic acid and typically part of a fulvic mineral complex. Fulvic minerals are also sometimes referred to as fulvic ionic minerals to emphasize that the mineral particles are charged and of a small size convenient enough for cellular absorption.

A mineral complex is a substance that consists of multiple minerals that are chemically bound to one another. In the case of a fulvic mineral complex, fulvic minerals are bound together via fulvic acid—thus providing the benefits of both minerals, essential for many body processes, and fulvic acid, an incredibly beneficial natural compound.

Health Benefits of Fulvic Minerals

Trace minerals are essential minerals that the human body must get from food, and are used for many different jobs in the body, including keeping your bones, muscles, heart, and brain working properly. Minerals are also important for making enzymes and hormones. As fulvic minerals are essential trace minerals bound to fulvic acid, they offer powerful benefits that are unmatched by any other type of supplement, such as:

  • Combatting vitamin and mineral deficiencies
  • Boosting the absorption of nutrients from food
  • Improving digestion
  • Increasing energy and vitality
  • Boosting the immune response
  • Improving skin, hair, and nail health
  • Fighting chronic inflammation in the body
  • Detoxifying the body of heavy metals (fulvic acid is a chelator, meaning it binds to heavy metals and eliminates them from the body)
  • Promotes brain health
  • Encourages muscle repair

Which is Better, Ormus or Fulvic Minerals?

After investigating into both Ormus and Fulvic Minerals, it seems clear which is better for nutrition and health. Ormus is a mineral supplement founded by a cotton farmer in 1975, supposedly composed of non-physical elements. Fulvic minerals are essential trace minerals bound to fulvic acid, a naturally occurring compound that is derived from humic acid in decomposing organic matter. Ormus is based on the words of its founder David Hudson, who has notoriously been reported for making unscientific claims about chemistry, physics and nutrition. Trace minerals are widely-known to be essential for health, and Fulvic acid has been studied extensively for its therapeutic benefits.

Which is Safer, Ormus or Fulvic Minerals?

Ormus minerals are likely unsafe for consumption if they have been formulated by the traditional method of boiling corrosive metals. If Ormus supplements are made by extracting minerals from natural substances like ocean water or volcanic ash, then the benefits offered by them are no different from other mineral supplements.

The issue with Ormus supplements is also their production—often they are made in unsterile kitchens and home labs, which are not verified for their safety by a third party. This makes Ormus supplements highly unreliable and inconsistent. At best, one will get a supplement that contains healthy minerals, was formulated in a sterile environment, and made with good intentions. At worst, one will get a supplement containing toxic heavy metals, made in someone’s unsterile kitchen or home lab, untested for safety by a third party.

Consuming Ormus supplements is a gamble, and if you choose to use any Ormus supplement, it is important to understand the risks, and it is recommended to thoroughly research the producer of the supplement—their ingredients, their method of extraction and formulation, their production facility, whether they were tested for safety, etc. It is also recommended to research further into David Hudson, the founder of Ormus minerals, and decide for yourself whether Ormus supplements are worth consuming.

Fulvic Minerals are undoubtedly much safer to consume than Ormus, as they contain trace elements in an ionic, absorbable form that the body can utilize, as well as fulvic acid, an organic compound with incredible health benefits. When consuming fulvic minerals, it is also recommended to look into the producer of the fulvic mineral supplement to ensure the product is of a high quality and does not contain any fillers or potentially toxic ingredients.

What Are the Side Effects of Ormus?

It is not actually possible to say the side effects of Ormus, as Ormus, or Orbitally Rearranged Monoatomic Elements, have not been scientifically proven to exist. However, there are many negative side effects to consuming toxic heavy metals, which may exist in some Ormus supplements if they are made through the method of repeatedly boiling corrosive metals. Side effects of heavy metal toxicity include:

  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • abdominal pain
  • vomiting
  • shortness of breath
  • tingling in your hands and feet
  • chills
  • coated tongue
  • extreme fatigue
  • frequent colds and flus
  • insomnia
  • memory loss
  • metallic taste in mouth
  • muscle and joint pain
  • muscle twitching
  • night sweats
  • mood swings
  • sensitive teeth/gums
  • sensitivity to smells
  • skin irritations
  • hyperesthesias
  • neurological changes

What Are the Side Effects of Fulvic Minerals?

Fulvic minerals are safe to consume, and have no known side effects for healthy people. According to some resources, it is recommended to avoid supplements with fulvic acid when pregnant or breast-feeding, as there has not been enough research specifically focused on its use during pregnancy. Fulvic acid might also increase the activity of the immune system, and therefore may worsen some autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). People with these conditions should be cautious when using fulvic acid or avoid fulvic acid altogether.

Zuma Nutrition’s Fulvic Acid & Trace Ocean Mineral Complex

We at Zuma have formulated a unique Fulvic Acid & Trace Mineral Complex product that contains fulvic acid that is naturally water extracted from humic ore. It is a proprietary mineral blend that is nano-sized into micro clusters allowing for optimal bioavailability, allowing these minerals to pass the blood-brain barrier. These ionic minerals help clean up the junk building up in your cells and keep you looking young and feeling vital.

These minerals and trace elements are broken down and used by the body to produce coenzymes (a substance that enhances the action of an enzyme, which is a protein that functions as a catalyst to mediate and speed a chemical reaction) as well as the inorganic materials that help build muscle, nerve, brain, connective tissue, bone, cartilage, hair, etc. In other words, almost every cell of the body is dependent on coenzymes. Therefore, we must always be replacing minerals to maintain the body's homeostasis or balance. To do this, we must constantly ingest minerals in forms that the body can access and utilize.

In the past, we received many of our minerals from the food that we consumed, as the soil it grew in was rich and healthy. Nowadays, much of the soil has been depleted through the use of pesticides, overtilling, and other poor agricultural practices, and the nutritional quality of food has also decreased.

Our Fulvic Acid & Trace Mineral Complex is made using no solvent except the natural spring water from the same region as where the plant matter (high in naturally occurring fulvic acid) is sustainably wild harvested. Our team has spent decades developing exclusive sources that provide us with the highest quality of raw ingredients. This formula is packed with 70+ trace minerals and can simply be added to purified or distilled drinking water to provide the body with essential minerals.
